About

Martijn Schönfeld, raised with a warm family background of creative engineers and managers. I started my education at St Lucas Boxtel, a creative-technical education and continued my education at The Design Academy Eindhoven. Since 2005 I work and live in Amsterdam.

Design, Develop, Purchase and Coordination. This is what I do since 2005 within five non-food businesses (interior and outdoor accessories, objects and furniture).

After my study industrial design at the Design Academy Eindhoven, I started working at Droog Design in Amsterdam as Purchasing & Production Coordinator. Next to the procurement processes of the entire Droog Design collection I also managed the logistics process and the warehouse stock. In addition, I was responsible for all national and international trade shows and exhibitions.

After nine years, I made the transition to Pottery Pots where I intensified my procurement experience with the far east; buying larger volumes, cost calculations, negotiations on price and delivery terms, quality control and multiple factory inspections. The factories produced their standard collections and private label products for Pottery Pots. Maintaining the quality and development of new collections, finishes and production methods were under my supervision. Products purchased varied from small plant pots, interior decoration up to jumbo planters and in- and outdoor furniture.

Two years later I completed my project at Pottery Pots, and made the transition to work for HEMA as shelf planner. Here I had the opportunity to gain experience with working for a large commercial company.

As shelf planner I was visual merchandiser and planner for the shelves and store presentation, I optimize the shelf space and commercial profit using the HEMA identity. With the planograms I make I controlled stock levels within the stores to have the right product in the right store at the right moment. I'm was also member of the project team to relaunch the fresh food department within HEMA. My product groups were the Food, Fresh Food, Eating & Cooking worlds.

Currently I work as an Category Product manager for the FETIM group in Amsterdam. A large whole seller with over 6000 sales points all over Europe. I am responsible for the marketing and product development of the shelving, storage and sanitary groups, which are mainly sold in DIY stores and living stores. Travelling (eastern) Europe and Asia to always find the best collections and products for our market.

Next to my work at FETIM, I am freelance design & development officer for a home decoration factory located in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. The work consists of designing the collections, developing new finishes, materials and making the designs for their trade shows and their new showroom, catalogue and website. Also I am consultant for the factory on how to professionalize and optimize the company and factory production flow.

The years of working at different companies gave me the opportunity to gain extensive knowledge of production in wood, glass, metal, ceramics, plastics, cement, fiberstone & fibreglass.
